CHILL IN LOS ANGELES AND NEW ORLEANS
Summer in L.A. means guys in board shorts, recession parties, gourmet food trucks (got Korean tacos?), lavender ice cream, rollerblading and True Blood. In New Orleans, it’s always steamy and wet, and we enjoy a nice chilled Purple Haze (local beer) while sitting by the misters. Here are a few more things we love in each city this summer:

CHILL IN THE VODBOX
Nic’s restaurant and martini lounge has a super chilled private vodka locker for tasings. They even provide the fake fur coats.

BHANGRA DANCE
A novel way to trim down your girlish figure… You saw it in Slumdog Millionaire and now you want to “Jai Ho” too. Check out these classes at Swerve.

BOTTLEROCK
This Culver City and Downtown wine bar also features artisinal microbrews. Try the Allegash Curieux from Maine, on tap. It’s aged for 8 weeks in Jim Beam barrels, which gives the ale a hint of bourbon flavor.

PAZZO GELATO
Craving a creamy frozen treat? Voted “Best in Los Angeles”, this Silverlake spot tops our favorites list with amazing daily gelato flavors like "Crème Fraîche Strawberry Champagne.”

COOLEST PIZZA TO GO
It can be difficult to snag a table at our favorite concept pizzeria Mozza, but thankfully you can now get it to go. Don’t miss the house-made fennel sausage pizza or the chicken liver bruschette.

FOUND A CURE
Cure is a new NOLA bar serving historical cocktails originally conceived as medicinal… esoteric & delicious.

THE COUNTRY CLUB
Dip in the pool at The Country Club (not your father's country club!) have a drink, relax by the pool. perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

A.D.: NEW ORLEANS AFTER THE DELUGE
This graphic novel is a true story by Josh Neufeld based on his experience as a post-Katrina Red Cross volunteer and interviews with Katrina survivors. A.D. is a great example of comic reportage and a beautiful portrait of post-Katrina New Orleans.

LABOR DAY WEEKEND AT SOUTHERN DECADENCE
Nicknamed the “Gay Mardi Gras,” Southern Decadence is one of those quintessential New Orleans occasions in which participants get to strut their stuff in elaborate costumes and high fashion.

WHERE Y'AT: FRIED AND FABULOUS
Where Y’at Magazine covers local arts and entertainment. We couldn’t get enough of the Fried and Fabulous guide to New Orleans food. Yum!

OUTFEST 2009 WAS A BIG SUCCESS
For the 2009 Outfest festival, Dustin W Design was given the opportunity to create a full brand package. We developed key art, print and online ads, outdoor animations and billboards, the festival teaser and full trailers, plus the festival website. The fest kicked off at the fabulous Orpheum theater downtown, with the excellent film “La Mission” starring el super hot papi Benjamin Bratt. 10 more days of gay and lesbian films, parties, workshops and other dazzling events culminated with the sweet film “Dare” under the stars at the John Anson Ford ampitheater. Outfest is one of our favorite local cause-based organizations so be sure to support them year-around.

Check out the archived festival website to see what you missed!
