Shewired.com is a redesign of a magazine-style news and social networking website for the female community. The original site, lesbianation.com, was an online magazine, rather outdated in look and format. Our goal was to take an existing property with a name that the target audience was not responding well to, and do a total rebrand. We started by creating a logo in the theme of the GayWired logo we’d created earlier that year for it’s sister publication. Working with the publishing and editorial team, we repositioned the site’s look and content with a strong social networking component. Because the lesbian demographic is very community-oriented, the new site focuses on helping users build a connection to the writers and bloggers and their community. As risky as a renaming was for redirecting search engines, the site was an incredible success and within 2 months of launch surpassed the highest ever traffic for lesbianation.com. A year later traffic to shewired.com was triple that of lesbianation.com.
